Web 2.0

I have received pictures posted on a website from my friends and now I know how they did it. I think libraries can use web 2.0 as follows:

First is an on-line orientation, library staff in an academic library can video-tape a special orientation or a basic orientation that gives students instructions on how to use on-line catalog to search for books or magazine, how to access library databases to search for articles they need to write their research papers, and how to search for a certain subject. Then, the video-taped orientation can be loaded on line in the form of a post cast or window media, and students can watch on-line or down load it to their computer to watch in case they couldn’t come to attend the orientation. This would save both students’ time and library staff’s time; that is, the students do not have to attend another orientation and the library staff do not have to give the same orientation all over again.

Second, there are many handouts in a library. Using web 2.0, library staff can create a website that posts all of the handouts online and students can access to the handouts. If the handouts contain ID and Password that give students access to the library’s database, the website should be created in the way that requires a student to enter his/her ID and password to get access to the databases and that protects copy right and the library’s property.

Third, it’s about social networking or communication. I was wondering if it would be a good idea that a website should be created to give students, school staff, and school faculty a permission to post their comments, suggestions or recommendations about library orientations, library services or library regulation. That’s all my thought of web 2.0.
